On Thursday evening, North's boys soccer teams returned home to host one of their crosstown rivals, the Wranglers from Middle School West. This was the first of back to back CISD rivalry games and both teams were hoping to set the tone early and show who had the upper hand. And after nearly being delayed due to the wet and wild weather that had moved through the area, all players were eager to start the action!
The Cougars A team was coming off a dominant win last week and tried early to show the Wranglers just what they could do. And for the first half, it was a very even-handed match. Carter Smith was in command as the Cougar goalie and kept his score sheet clean. Finally, North was able to break through with Ryan Snelling finding the net after a brilliant assist from Sergio Exposito Perez. But the excitement was short-lived though as West almost immediately countered and tied the score up at 1-1. And despite aggressive play from both sides, that is how the A game ended!
Following the even A match, both the Cougars and Wranglers hoped that their B squads would find some momentum. And North's roster was once again ready to play and up for the challenge. Continuing a dominant start to their season, the Cougars jumped out to a strong first half; holding a 3-0 lead at the break. Goals from John Ortiz, Rogelio Barba Tostado, and birthday boy- Gauthan Muresh were fueled by 2 assists from Aiden Gambrell and another from Barba Tostado. Despite exerting control throughout the second half as well, North was unable to find any other scores to extend the lead; but keepers Ashwath Kolla and Matthew De Santiago didn't allow anything by them on the night. And a final minute shot block from defender Ryan Wendling sealed the shutout and victory for North!
Be sure to join in on the fun next week at North will face off with their other Coppell rival- the Broncos from East. It will definitely be a battle as these two schools take the pitch! #GoCougars
