Your North Cougars entered the district tournament as the No. 3 seed, wrapping up the regular season with a strong 4–1–1 record and they were ready to make a statement.
In the opening round, North took on Grapevine and wasted no time showing they meant business. The defense was nearly impenetrable, allowing just one shot on goal all game! Aneesha Anand capitalized off a brilliant assist from Jaehee Lee, giving North a 1–0 victory and sending the Cougars to the semifinals against none other than Heritage—the only team to hand them a loss this season.
And this time, North was out for revenge.
The semifinal showdown was an instant classic. Allison Lewis connected with Emmy Anene to put North up 1–0 early, but Heritage answered with two quick goals, taking a 2–1 lead into halftime.
North came out strong in the second half. Kate McGrath tied things up 2–2 off a fantastic assist from Izzy Lingenbrink. Just moments later, McGrath struck again, this time set up perfectly by Emmy Anene to give North a 3–2 lead. But Heritage wasn’t done yet, battling back to even the score at 3–3.
Then came one of the most clutch plays of the tournament: Annabelle Ross made a heroic goal-line save, clearing the ball at the last second and keeping North alive. That play sent the game to penalty kicks, and North was ready.
Cool, calm, and collected, Allison Lewis, Aneesha Anand, Izzy Lingenbrink, and Jalina Suarez all buried their PKs. And when the pressure was at its peak, Kaylee Carpenter came through with a huge save, sealing the win and sending the Cougars to the championship game!
With the title on the line,North was locked in and ready to finish the job.
In a thrilling rematch of last year’s district final, North faced Colleyville with everything on the line. And from the first whistle, the Cougars came out on fire. They controlled the tempo, dominated possession, and played with poise and passion.
Jaehee Lee set up Mila Obidzinski for the opening goal, and just minutes later, Lee scored one herself off a sharp pass from Izzy Lingenbrink to make it 2–0.
From start to finish, North never let up.
