8th Grade: Cougars Dominate Season Opener Against East Broncos
Your North Cougars were fired up to host their first game of the season! The B teams took the court first, and they came out ready to compete. North came out swinging—passing, hitting, and blocking with energy—taking the first set in a thriller, 25–23. East battled back in the second set, determined to push it to three. Despite North’s fight, East took the second 25–19, sending it to a deciding set. The third set was a nail-biter, with both teams trading points back and forth, but East edged out the win 15–12. Although North didn’t come away with the victory, they showed incredible heart and growing team chemistry that’s sure to carry them through the season. Player of the Game honors go to Victoria Mota, North’s fearless libero, who delivered clutch passes all night and racked up an impressive 12 points from the service line!
The 8th grade A team kicked off their season in impressive fashion, sweeping the East Broncos in two decisive sets: 25-15 and 25-14. Having previously faced the Broncos in a preseason scrimmage, the Cougars came prepared using that early matchup to anticipate East’s strategy and adjust their game plan. With aggressive serving, solid serve receive, powerful hitting, and smart, strategic play, the Cougars proved too much for the Broncos to handle. Team captains Annabelle Ross and Brylee Felix were key anchors on the court, playing all six rotations and staying calm and composed during high-pressure moments. Players of the game are middle blocker Emmy Anene, who tallied 11 points from the service line, and pin hitter Sydney Stuchal, who racked up 6 kills to help seal the match win. This group is already showing strong chemistry and determination, and with high expectations ahead, the Cougars are definitely a team to watch this season.
The C teams closed out the night, and North was determined to seal the series with a win—and that’s exactly what they did! From the very first serve, North looked absolutely unstoppable. Their relentless serving was too much for East to handle, as North dominated the first set 25–8.
Not letting up for a second, North came out even stronger in the second set, making a statement with a commanding 25–6 victory. Every single player was locked in and on fire, bringing their A-game from start to finish.This one was truly a team win, so the Players of the Game go to the entire North squad! With a performance like this, it’s clear that everything is starting to click.

7th Grade A Team Opens Season with Dominant Win

The Cougars started their season on a high note, sweeping the East Broncos in two sets (25–20, 25–11). Drawing on lessons from their preseason scrimmage with East, the team arrived with a focused game plan and executed it with precision.
Although some first-match nerves showed early, aggressive serving, powerful hitting, and smart, strategic play kept the Broncos on their heels. Once the jitters settled, the Cougars found their rhythm and dominated the second set.
Player of the Game honors go to Gia Reyes, who tallied 12 points from the service line in the first set alone. A leader, motivator, and positive influence on her teammates, Gia’s constant communication calmed the court and helped elevate everyone’s play.
Player of the Week is Suin Cho, recognized for her hard work in practice, versatility in playing any position, upbeat attitude, competitive spirit, and team-first mindset.
With so much talent on this roster, the Cougars are poised for steady growth and exciting progress throughout the season!
7th Grade B:
The 7th Grade B Team took the court with determination but faced challenges in the first set, ultimately falling to East by a score of 25-19. The second set was much more competitive, with both teams trading points throughout. Despite a strong effort, the Cougars narrowly lost the set 26-24.
Player of the Game: Sarah Kate Baade – Sarah Kate played a vital role in the team’s serving rotation and did an outstanding job setting up her teammates throughout the match.
Player of the Week: Lily Bordelon – Lily demonstrated exceptional coachability, maintained a team-first attitude, and provided consistent encouragement to her teammates.
7th grade C:
The 7th Grade C Team closed out the evening’s matches. After a slow start and a 25-19 loss in the first set, the team responded with renewed focus in the second. Led by Arayna Bowers, who scored seven points on serve, the Cougars secured a 25-20 victory to even the match. In the decisive third set, East established an early lead that North / was unable to overcome, with East ultimately taking the set 15-8.
Player of the Game: Arayna Bowers – Arayna delivered a strong performance at the service line and contributed effectively at the net throughout the match.
Player of the Week: Evie Hornsby – Evie embraced a new position with a positive and coachable attitude and continually looked for opportunities to improve her skills.
