North Cougars Shine at Andy Brown Cross Country Meet
The North Cougars had a strong showing at the Andy Brown Cross Country Meet this week, competing against West, Grapevine, and Colleyville. Across all four divisions, the Cougars ran with grit and determination, finishing with two team championships and plenty of standout individual performances.
The meet began with the 8th grade girls, who dominated the competition and secured 1st place overall as a team. Leading the way was Angie Nguyen, who took 1st place individually with a time of 13:58.15. She was joined in the top ten by Kate McGrath (3rd, 14:20.02), Mirabelle Sagel (5th, 14:37.53), Mileena Garcia (7th, 15:01.78), and Brylee Felix (8th, 15:20.69). With five finishers inside the top ten, the Cougars showed their depth and set the tone early.
Next up, the 8th grade boys battled hard and earned 2nd place overall as a team. Oscar Martin led the pack with an incredible race, finishing 1st overall in a blazing 12:08.43. Mason Hotle grabbed 8th place (12:52.25), while teammates Vihaan Sapkota (12th, 13:10.51), Taichi Oyama (13th, 13:16.76), and Austin Shelby (15th, 13:19.77) all finished strong to secure key points.
The 7th grade girls kept the momentum rolling, racing to 1st place overall as a team. Madeline Koehler set the pace, taking 1st place individually with a time of 14:02.67. She was closely followed by Samvrita Sunil (3rd, 14:17.46) and Karissa Hansen (6th, 15:26.40). Rounding out the top five Cougar finishers were Berkley Hoerman (10th, 16:35.46) and Sansthigha Vasantharaju (13th, 16:46.30).
Closing out the meet, the 7th grade boys gave a gutsy effort but finished 4th overall. Brothers Josh Rose (4th, 12:31.45) and Caleb Rose (5th, 12:50.89) both cracked the top five, while Ashmit Adhikari (27th, 15:11.83), Rishi Sharma (28th, 15:12.39), and Vivaan Naria (30th, 15:23.81) rounded out the Cougars’ top finishers.
Overall, the Cougars left Andy Brown proud of their efforts, highlighted by first-place team finishes in both 8th grade girls and 7th grade girls, plus three individual champions in Angie Nguyen, Oscar Martin, and Madeline Koehler.
The Cougars continue to prove they are one of the toughest teams on the course this season.
