A Team – Final Score: 13-14
What. A. Game.
The North A Team put up an incredible fight in a down-to-the-wire showdown against Heritage Middle School, coming up just short with a 13-14 final. The Cougars left it all on the field, and the crowd was on their feet until the final whistle.
North wasted no time setting the tone — on the opening drive, Rylan Horn broke free for a spectacular 45-yard touchdown run, electrifying the sideline and putting the Cougars up 7-0. The momentum kept rolling when Leo Popp fired a perfect pass to Crosby Grizzle for the two-point conversion.
The defense kept the energy high in the second quarter. Benjamin Peiffer made one of the night’s biggest plays with a 75-yard scoop-and-score, turning a loose ball into instant points. Although the PAT missed, North headed into halftime trailing by just one, 13-14, and ready for a second-half push.
The third quarter was a defensive highlight reel. Shane Tetteh came up with a huge fumble recovery — forced by Miguel Lopez-Vergara — to swing momentum back to North. Soon after, Crosby Grizzle hauled in a clutch 30-yard pass from Horn on 3rd down, putting the Cougars in prime scoring position. Later in the quarter, Wyatt Synowicki pounced on another loose ball to give the offense yet another shot.
With the game on the line in the fourth quarter, Tetteh made a jaw-dropping 40-yard catch from Horn to keep the comeback alive. North battled to the final seconds but ultimately ran out of time before they could punch it in.
It was a hard-fought, heart-pounding game, and the Cougars showed the grit and determination that defines this team. They’ll be ready to bounce back in a big way when they take on Coppell Middle School West on Wednesday, October 15 — you won’t want to miss it!
B Team – Final Score: 7-25
The North B Team showed tremendous heart under the lights Monday night, fighting until the final whistle despite a tough 7-25 loss to Heritage. Their record now stands at 2-2, but the fire this team plays with is stronger than ever.
The Cougars came out swinging in the first quarter with an explosive 50-yard run by Andrew Espinoza, bringing the ball all the way down to the 9-yard line and setting the tone early.
Heritage found their rhythm and built a 25-0 lead by halftime, but North refused to back down. In the fourth quarter, the offense came alive — Espinoza launched a beautiful pass to Sebastian Bello-Lopez to move the chains, then capped off the drive himself with a 4-yard touchdown run. Cole Reyes ran in the PAT to make it 7-25.
The Cougars’ relentless energy and never-quit attitude were on full display, and they’ll look to bring that same fire next week when they face Coppell Middle School West on Wednesday, October 15.
