Cougars vs. Broncos Game Recap
The Cougars traveled down to the House of the Broncos to take on their opponent in a hostile environment.
A Team Recap:
In the first quarter, the Cougars came out a bit shell-shocked as the offense started off rusty and struggled to move the ball effectively. Despite the slow start, Matthew Castaneda found some success running up the middle, with the offensive line opening solid holes for him. However, the Broncos’ defense stood strong and kept the Cougars off the board. The Broncos managed to find the end zone before the end of the first quarter, taking an 8–0 lead.
In the second quarter, the Cougar offense began to find its rhythm. Garrison Gamet connected with his receivers downfield and used his legs to gain additional yards. The Cougars drove deep into the red zone, but the Broncos’ defense once again held firm, preventing a score. After the defensive stop, the Broncos capitalized by driving down the field and scoring another touchdown to extend their lead to 16–0.
The second half told a different story, as the Cougar defense came alive and completely changed the tone of the game. The defense recorded multiple sacks, one of which led to a safety, and Canyon Hastings came up with a key interception. Unfortunately, the offense was unable to convert those defensive plays into points. The game ended with a 16–2 loss for the Coppell Middle School North A Team.
B Team Recap:
The B Team matchup was a back-and-forth battle from start to finish. The Cougar offense opened strong by feeding Marco Ramos, who provided big gains on the ground. With Gautham Muresh at quarterback, the offense mixed it up through the air, as he connected with his receivers while the offensive line held firm against the Broncos’ pressure. Despite the early momentum, the Broncos managed to halt the Cougars’ drives through the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Cougars found their rhythm. Marco Ramos continued to slice through the defense for key yardage, and Gautham Muresh delivered a big-time pass to Caleb Ponsen down the middle of the field, setting up a touchdown that brought the score to 7–11 at halftime.
As the game progressed, the defense tightened up, recording key sacks and giving the offense more opportunities. Heading into the fourth quarter, the Cougars’ persistence paid off as they found the end zone again to take the lead. However, the Broncos managed a late drive, scoring a game-winning touchdown in the final minutes. The Coppell Middle School North B Team fell just short, losing 19–13.
