With the school holiday on Monday, the North 7th grade football team had to wait until midweek to take on one of their crosstown rivals- West Middle School. So on Wednesday afternoon, they loaded up the busses and traveled down Denton Tap to compete with the Wranglers.

In the A team game, both sides were pumped up and ready to go. The first half ended up being a defensive battle as North and West struggled to find any true momentum. North did score first on a QB run by Rylan Horn; followed by a PAT kick by Wyatt Synowicki to take an 8-0 lead into the halftime break. However, the second half was a different story for the boys from North as Chris Angel started off the third quarter with a thrilling TD run which seemed to open the floodgates. Adding on with another TD run by Horn and accompanying PAT from Synowicki, the lead quickly grew to 22-0. And with the Wranglers reeling, the Cougars connected on a TD pass from QB Miguel Lopez-vergara to wideout Leo Popp to lead 28-0 heading into the final frame. As the clock ticked by quickly, North was able to capitalize once more with Crosby Grizzle recovering a fumble in the end zone behind the West offense for one more touchdown. And when the buzzer sounded, North was able to celebrate a dominating 36-0 victory over West!

With excitement riding high, the Cougar's B team was hoping to ride the same wave to success as they kicked off the second game. And it literally took no time at all as North's first play was an explosive 60 yard TD run around the end by Max Hentschel. After Kaden Rose ran in the PAT, it was 7-0 North just like that! And the Cougars were just getting started! In the second quarter, Rose rolled out to the right and found TE Gavin Fischer for a 25 yard TD pass pushing the score to 13-0. And on the next possession, Fischer was so quick on his LB blitz that he literally took the handoff from the West QB and was headed to the end zone. An unfortunate penalty negated the score for North, but they were still well-positioned as the offense took the field. It didn't take long either as Rose took off from the backfield to run in his first TD of the night as the Cougars held a 19-0 advantage at the half. Starting the third quarter, West came out with something to prove and proceeded to march down the field and punch in a TD to cut the lead to 19-7. But just as the first half began, Hentschel took the handoff on North's first play around the left side this time to score another TD and restore North's advantage to 25-7. But as the back and forth action continued, West found lightning in a bottle and broke off their own long TD run and stay in the game with a 25-14 score. However, that was all the points that North's defense would surrender and the Cougar offense wasn't done just yet. On the ensuing kickoff, Kaden Rose once again showed off his moves and he juked and jived through the Wrangler coverage to post a 70 yard kickoff return TD to end the third period! And as the game progressed through the final act, one last Cougar TD by running back Jayden Lemus pushed the final to a big 37-14 WIN for North!

UP NEXT- the Cougars will wrap up the regular season against their other crosstown rivals from MS East on Monday, 10/20/25... playing at North's home field. Come on out and cheer on the Cougars!
