The Coppell Middle School North Cougars took on the Heritage Middle School on Monday, October 27, under clear skies at Heritage Field.
The Cougars came out swinging on defense as Diego Rodriguez Parada set the tone early with a huge tackle for loss that fired up the sideline. Heritage, however, managed to recover and push downfield, punching in the game’s first score to take an 8-0 lead. North’s offense struggled to find its rhythm in the opening quarter, going three-and-out on its first drive.
In the second quarter, the Cougars began to show some spark. Quarterback Rylan Horn connected with Crosby Grizzle on a 15-yard completion that moved the chains and gave the offense some momentum. But the drive eventually stalled, and a late first-half fumble on a reverse play left North trailing 16-0 at halftime.
Coming out of the break, North’s defense continued to battle. Hector Martinez came up big with a 15-yard tackle for loss, igniting the Cougar sideline. Despite the defensive stand, a mishandled snap on offense gave Heritage prime field position, and the Broncos capitalized to extend their lead.
When the final whistle blew, Heritage came away with the win, 30-0.
The Cougars will look to finish their season strong on Monday, November 3, when they host Cross Timbers Middle School at Coppell Middle School North Field. Kickoff is set for 5:00 p.m. Come out and cheer on your 7th grade Cougars in their final game of the season!
