After battling through tryouts that saw more than 70 girls compete for a spot, the Cougars were ready to prove themselves. North hit the road for its season opener against Colleyville, the same team the Cougars faced in last year’s district championship game, and wasted no time showing they were ready for the moment.
North came out aggressive and created several strong scoring chances early, putting immediate pressure on the Colleyville defense. The breakthrough finally came when Kate McGrath found the back of the net off a great assist from Mila Obidzinski. That goal gave the Cougars a 1 to 0 lead heading into halftime.
Defensively, North was outstanding from start to finish. Hila Silverman controlled the first half in goal with three huge saves to preserve the shutout. In the second half, Annabelle Ross stepped in and delivered two more clutch saves to keep Colleyville off the board. The Cougars sealed the win when Nadia Stanback launched a tremendous throw in that set up Mila Obidzinski for North’s second goal of the night.
North earned a statement 2 to 0 shutout victory to open the season.
Player of the Game honors go to Mila Obidzinski, who finished with one goal and one assist. The Cougar defense was rock solid all night and was anchored by standout performances from Brylee Felix and Sherry Silverman.
The excitement did not stop there.
North’s B Team made sure to keep the energy rolling with an impressive performance of its own. The Cougars struck early, and Karissa Hansen took over from there. Hansen scored North’s first hat trick of the season in a dominant showing, while midfielder Sterling Cook added a goal of her own to help power North to a 4 to 1 victory.
Player of the Game goes to Karissa Hansen, who was absolutely unstoppable.
Two teams. Two wins. One strong start for North Soccer.
Come support the Cougars next week as North travels to Cross Timbers looking to keep the undefeated season alive. ??
