Last Tuesday night the North Football Cougars played the Adams Lions and all teams played well. In the 7th grade B game at NWISD stadium, Adams jumped out to a 0-13 lead despite a fumble recovery by Zach Sanders. In the 2nd quarter Matias Leon found Sanders open down the sideline on a 37 yard pass to set up a Leon to Will Ellis TD and Brooks Kaiser's PAT made it 8-13. But Adams would score late to win 8-25. In the 7A game Adams scored 2 TD's to take a 0-14 lead. But Will Kennington's 50 yard pick 6 sparked the Cougars. North's defense came alive and swarmed the Lions, led by Kennington, Eduvie Nesaima, Luke Brinck, who caused a fumble, and Cade Slaton, who recovered the fumble to set up the exciting finish. Gage De Los Santos drew the Lions offsides on a hard count and found Crew Davis in the end zone on the free play. This tied the score at 14, which would turn out to be the final score, despite De Los Santos' INT and return on the last play.
In the 8th gradeC game at North, the Cougars spotted the Lions a 0-8 lead but would come back on a AJ Gonzales to Eric Olvera 34 yard TD pass and Caiden Baldwins PAT run made it 7-8. Baldwin would add a 38 yard TD run and a PAT pass to Nathan Rusch to make the final score a 14-8 win for the Cougars. In the B game Cale Stricklin led the Cougars with a TD run and an INT but the Cougars would fall 8-12. In the A game, North jumped out to an 8-0 lead on a Scott Fishpaw to Beckham Sanguras 12 yard TD pass and Ben Murphy's PAT kick. But the Lions would come back despite fumble recoveries by Sanguras and Matthew Neitzel to take a 8-14 victory. The Cougars play West at CHS on Tuesday with the 7th grade game at 5 and the 8th grade game following at 6:30.
