The 7th and 8th grade North football teams played West Tuesday at Buddy Echols Field on a cold and rainy night for football. Both teams played well and came out victorious against the crosstown rival. In the 7th grade opener the Cougars started early with a 7 yard TD pass from Gage De Los Santos to Jack Behr and Luke Brinck's PAT made the score 8-0. Dillon Slaton followed that up with a 7 yard TD pass of his own to Jackson Floren and the score was 14-0. Later in the half De Los Santos found Crew Davis for a 55 yard TD pass and run and Michael Kennington's PAT made it 21-0. After West scored a couple of TDs, Diego Sanchez took a handoff 55 yards to make the score 27-12. West would add one last TD to make the final score 27-18.
In the 8th grade game Scott Fishpaw ran 45 yards on the 3rd play of the game and Ben Murphy added the first of his 4 PATs for an 8-0 lead. After Layton McCown recovered a fumble on the ensuing kickoff, Cole Kinnan would catch a pass and get to the 1 yard line where Alex Kraus would score the first of his 2 TD's on the night. O'Marion Mbakwe added an 8 yard run before halftime to stake the Cougars to a 32-0 lead. In the 2nd half Cole Stricklin scored on a 3 yard run to give North a 38-0 lead. West would add a TD to make the final score 38-6. North ends their 2020 football season next week when the grade hosts East on Monday at 5 and the 8th grade plays East Wednesday at CHS Buddy Echols Field.
