In the home opener for North's 7th grade football teams, the Cougars hosted the visiting Hawks of Timberview Middle School on Tuesday night.
To start the action, the Cougars kept it close in the first half of the B game. But the Hawks broke free for a couple touchdown runs to take control in the second half of the game. The standout play for the Cougars was when LB Ethan Pate singlehandedly took the ball from Timberview on a PAT try and sprinted 100 yards to give the Cougars 2 points for his effort! Despite thrilling the crowd, the B team fell to the Hawks 18-2 for their first loss of the season.
In the second game of the night, A team came out hot in the first half... building off of their momentum from last week. There were determined defensive plays all around: Pranik Boppana and Isaac VanKirk both had sensational QB sacks, Daylon Mongomery had a TD saving interception and long return, and Miguel Lopez Dos Santos forced a Hawks fumble for another takeaway. On offense, Jacob Anene once again laced up his skates and glided through the Timberview Middle School for 2 first half touchdown runs to earn our Player of the Week honors. At halftime, North held the lead 12-8. However, a rash of injuries hampered the Cougars as they headed into the second half, and Timberview found a way to take advantage and took the lead to hold on for a 29-12 victory.
