NORTH 7TH FOOTBALL TAKES ON THE EAGLES

North 7th Football Takes on the Eagles

On Wednesday evening, the North Cougars 7th grade football team took one last road trip for the season and visited the Eagles of Indian Springs Middle School. With fall in the air, it was a perfect scene for some great football on the field.

The B game got off to an exciting start as the Cougar defense stepped up right away. Ridham Babel picked off an Eagles pass and returned the ball to the 5 yard line. This set himself up for a QB keeper to score while making his first start at quarterback this season to take the early lead. And the trend continued with Bennett Head also grabbing an interception on the night; followed by a pick 6 from Barrett Mupo to give the Cougars a 13-0 victory over Indian Springs.

Unfortunately, the momentum provided by the B team win didn't last long as the Cougars A team saw Indian Springs dominate the 1st quarter and fell into a deep 18-0 hole. However, the Cougars dug in and didn't give up as they worked their way back into the game. On the night, quarterback Jack Wilmington threw 3 TD passes to Daylon Montgomery and Jacob Anene; but also hit Isaac VanKirk for a 95 yard TD to take the lead midway through the 4th quarter. After the Eagles responded with a touchdown of their own to retake the lead, the North offense pushed their way down the field and tied the game at 26 apiece after a touchdown run from Anene. In one last hurrah, the Cougar defense got the ball back and gave North a chance to win the game, but the Indian Springs defense made a goal line stand on the final play to preserve the final outcome, a 26-26 tie without overtime.

The North coaching staff couldn't be more proud of the effort and determination from both teams; pushing through with grit even when facing adversity. As the season wraps up next week, North hopes to see their best performances come to light in our final showdown against crosstown rivals- the East Broncos!
