North vs Cross Timbers

North Coaches | 9/7/2023

Last night your North Cougars hosted a scrimmage with Cross Timbers Middle School. Our 8th grade C team came out strong and adjusted well to a new line up. Their aggressive play and teamwork were unmatched, which led to a two-set victory (25-15, 25-12). Varsha Pazhayidaththu had 6 straight service points, 3 of which were aces. Yena Chae stepped into the role of libero, showing great serve receive and defense, and Brennan Ford had 2 kills in the 1st set. All the girls have shown so much improvement in just a few short weeks.

Alexa Boudreaux earned "Player of the Week" for her leadership, aggressive play, and serving 6 straight points towards the end of the 2nd set . Her ability to step up during crucial situations offensively and defensively helped them secure the win.

The 8th grade B team had a slow start but worked through their mistakes early in the 1st set to come out with a win (26-16). The girls played well in the second set and had a strong serving game to finish out with a 25-18 victory over CTMS. Averie Gonzales had 8 service points, 5 of which were aces, Faith Law stepped into the setter role, helping control the game and consistent play throughout both sets, and Ainsley Ingram had 7 consecutive serves at the end of the first set and led to our win.

Lily Bowen had a great game all around. She had 3 kills, consistent serve receive, and had 12 consecutive serves to finish the 2nd set with a W.

While the 8th grade A team lost their match in the 3rd set, the steep competition gave the Cougars a chance to step up their game, as well as discover areas of improvement. Coppell was able to take set 1 with a score of 26-24 but fell short in set 2 and 3. Shout- out to Addison Hamm for contributing 2 impressive kills in the second set, Emry Holder for a dominate block and Emma Hurst for her fierce serving throughout the entire match.

Zoey Ponsen proved to be the calm in a weathered storm throughout the match against the Wolves, earning her Player of the Game honors. As a valuable setter in our offensive rotations, she is also reliable in recovering out of system balls and an integral part of our serve receive.

North was ready to host Cross Timbers for the first time this year. Even though it was only a scrimmage the Cougars energy levels were extremely high. This year's order of games for your 7th grade Cougars are different. They will be played in BAC order.

North’s B team played first. North came out shaking the first set losing 25-11. However, they bounced back in the second set by communicating and moving to the ball. Despite their best efforts North fell short with a 25-15 loss. The player of the game goes to Cassandra Keating for her great serves and unbelievable passing.

Next up were the A teams and the game did not disappoint. North battled the first set and put the pressure on Cross Timbers, but North came up short 25-20. The next set was a nail biter with North just falling short 26-24. The player of the game goes to Kaitlyn Thiele with her amazing sets, serves, and effort.

Last up were the C teams. North played great and improved with every rally but ultimately lost both sets 25-16. However, your Cougars never lost energy and fought till the last ball. The player of the game goes to Madison Tooke with her great energy and communication. Come help cheer on your North Cougars as we Host Heritage for our first District game of the year!
