8th vs East-

Last night was a big game against our rival team, the East Broncos. B team came out aggressive and determined to remain undefeated. They did just that, winning 36-15 and 3-0 for the season! Our stats showed that ALL 11 players got at least one rebound during the game. Carolina Vasquez plays a big role by creating space and making things happen on offense and defense. She had 8 points, 3 rebounds, 11 steals. Averie Gonzales puts in the work in practice and it shows when she competes. Averie had 6 points, 3 rebounds, 4 steals. Our Player of the Game had 10 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals. She made plays at crucial moments in the game that gave us momentum. Congratulations Alexa Boudreaux!

The A team had a slow start and were down quite a bit at the first half. However, they dominated in the second half, but still had to catch up. In the third quarter they found momentum scoring 20 points, putting them back in the game. The final quarter they fought hard but didn’t end like we hoped, finishing 38-45. The district tournament we will see them again for a rematch! Soee Jakhu scored 4 points and had 3 rebounds. Faith Law had 2 points, 4 rebounds and 1 steal. Morgan Proctor had 18 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals. The Player of the Game was outstanding last night. Her stamina, hustle, and defense is truly one of a kind. She had 7 points, 16 rebounds and 5 steals. You're amazing, Addison Hamm!!!

Our C team had an intense game as well. They started out slow, but doubled their points the second half, when pressing The Broncos. The 4th quarter was back and forth and they scored in the last second, which put us into overtime. It was great to see them not give up and work as a team. The bench was cheering so loud and it helped tremendously. However, we fell short by 3 points in the two minute overtime 18-21. It was a great game and fun to watch. Abigail Imwold led with 7 rebounds and also had 3 steals. Harper Thompson had her best game to date, with 2 points, 3 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 assist. Maddy Wilson scored 5 points, two rebounds, 1 steal and 1 assist. Our Player of the game, hit the buzzer beater to put us in overtime, scored 7 points, 3 rebounds, 4 steals and 1 assist. Great job Shreya Shah!

7th vs East-

Our North 7th grade girls basketball team took on the Coppell Middle School East Broncos this Thursday on the Bronco courts. The A team started off the night with a 4 point lead gained in the second quarter to leave the score 16 to 12 at half time. The game was filled with hustle as our girls scrapped for every loose ball. Player of the game Jalina Suarez used her quick reactions to steal the ball, stopping several bronco fastbreaks. Maddie Shelby stayed consistent with strong post buckets each quarter for the Cougars. Jalina and Maddie were joined by Olly Anane for the most dives on the floor award. Anane and Maddie Shelby each combine for 18 of the 23 points for the North Cougars. All eight of the girls gave full effort, but it wasn’t enough to overcome CSMSE. The final score was 23-33, Broncos.

The B team played next and came out with very aggressive energy. The East girls could not break the press and our cougars capitalized on those turnovers. Tarusi Apahle and Charlotte Beade started the on the scoreboard while Laurel Storey and Arianna Datta tormented the Bronco offense with their quick steals. Gabby Keating was named the player of the game due to her quick read of the play and baskets to put the cougars up 12 points over the Broncos. The first-half score was 16 to 4, North. East responded with strong defense which slowed the scoring for North. North scored seven points more to finish the game with 23 points beating the Bronco who finished with 15 points.

The C game turned out to be the most exciting game of all, the three sub teams for the Cougars, yellow, purple, and green all hustled to only lose by two. The score was close each quarter with a 8-6 first, 8-10 half and tie 18-18 in the third. Big points came from Parmis Fazard, Reese Shortino, Sarah Wells and Renata Lara Vasquez. Each player was cheering on on the bench and those in the stands were glued into the game. Layla Lampking supported her team with her fast hustle and bullet fast passing. North was down two buckets and Reese turned shooting from the elbow to hit a needed bucket to put the Cougars within two. East returned with a quick fast break and was fouled. The shooter made the second shot, sending our team to a the baseling for a throw-in with less than 2 minutes in the game. North Cougars ran “1,2,3,4, Renata Play” to inbound the ball. Renata Lara Vasquez ran down the court away from the throw-in to catch and score a bucket to tie the game 23 to 23 with less than a minute to go. A quick 5th foul from our clutch scorer sent her to the bench. Cougars were unable to score again after East scored for a final 25 points. Coach Martens and Sieb were so proud of the C team players as they implemented many last second plays. Players of the game were Layla Lampkin and Renata Lara Vasquez.
