As the season winds to a close, the North Cougars 7th grade boys basketball team was looking to make one last run. Their opportunity began on Friday evening as they headed into district tournament action hosted by Cross Timbers Middle School in Grapevine.

Having recently faced off just a few shorts weeks ago, the 4th seeded Cougars were set to take on the host team- the 5th seeded Wolves of Cross Timbers themselves in first round action. The previous contest had featured a tight first half with North pulling away for a solid win in the second half. And now the Cougars hoped to see history repeat itself.

As the game tipped off to start the tournament, both teams looked to make a quick move... and Cross Timbers did just that. However, North was able to answer right back and both teams showed their grit in an evenly matched first quarter. Moving toward halftime though, the Wolves were able to capitalize on some slashes to the hoop and built an 8 point lead at the break. The Cougars had contributions from everyone on the roster as the game progressed, but the Player of the Game was Ryan Snelling who did a little bit of everything collecting 5 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 steals. Despite the effort though, it was Cross Timbers who was able to keep up the pressure and continue building upon their lead which eventually secured the Wolves a first round victory by the score of 52-35; ending the Cougars season on a sour note.

Both Coach Cox and Coach Thompson voiced their pride in the effort following the loss though; noting how the Cougars kept fighting and scrapping as they looked to get back in front. Additionally, it certainly was a team effort with all 10 players filling the stat sheet. And hopefully these players will return next year hungry for another chance to take on this district.
