North 7th & 8th Grade Basketball Girls Open the Season With Dominant Wins Over Grapevine

North 8th Girls vs Grapevine

Your North Cougars tipped off the season at home against Grapevine and made an immediate statement with a clean sweep across all three teams!

B Team set the tone to start the night, coming out locked in defensively from the opening tip. They jumped out to a commanding 15–2 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. The team effort was outstanding—Natalie Campos was everywhere with countless steals, Anna Sarmiento brought relentless defense, Harper Johnson dominated the boards, and Player of the Game Angelica Bennett led all scorers with 13 points. The Cougars cruised to an impressive 43–8 victory.

Next up, the A Team took the floor ready to defend last year’s district title. North and Grapevine traded baskets early, with the Cougars holding a narrow 23–14 halftime lead. The second half, however, was all North. The Cougars allowed just 7 points while pouring in 39 of their own to secure a dominant 62–21 win. Annabelle Ross led the way with 23 points despite foul trouble, Brylee Felix controlled the game with strong passes, lockdown defense, and 8 points, and Kate McGrath had an outstanding defensive performance. Player of the Game honors went to Mila Obidzinski, who finished with 9 points and absolutely unstoppable defense.

Closing out the night, the C Team completed the sweep in style. North overwhelmed Grapevine with suffocating defense and ran away with a 32–6 win. Kendall Dunkelberger and Sharina Haro led the scoring with 6 points each, while Karis Wilkins and Elizabeth Vazquez were relentless on the boards. Player of the Game went to Fatima Coria, whose nonstop defense fueled the offense all night long.

What an incredible start to the season. We are so proud of these Cougars!

North 7th Girls vs Grapevine

The Coppell Middle School North 7th grade girls basketball teams started their 2025–2026 season with a strong statement on December 11, facing Grapevine Middle School at home. All 3 teams showed disciplined defense, unselfish play, and balanced scoring, earning convincing victories to begin the year 3–0.

North 7th A Team Sets the Tone Early with 53-42 WIN

What an exciting season opener for the North Cougars! From tipoff to the final buzzer, North’s A Team played intense, high-energy basketball and held the lead for the entire game. The Cougars came out pressing full court, pushing the tempo, moving the ball, and executing an impressive box-and-one defense and closing out the first half 39-27. Grapevine’s frustration was clear as North repeatedly forced turnovers, stole possessions, and shut down the Ponies’ top two players. The final score locked in a North Victory and leading on the scoreboard 53-42.

Samira Augustine earned Player of the Game honors with an outstanding 19 points, sharp court awareness, and quick defensive reads. Shoutouts also go to Aspen Bingham, point guard, for her selfless playmaking and 10 points; Berkley Hoerman, shooting guard, for her grit attacking the basket; Lilly Jarmon and Suin Cho, posts, for strong work on the boards and securing crucial second-chance opportunities; and Sarah Kate Baade and Nithya Boppana, shooting guards, for their court awareness and resilience navigating traffic in the lane to add to the scoreboard.

7th B Team Rolls to a 35–10 Victory

The B team showcased its defensive identity from the opening tip, holding Grapevine to just 10 points and controlling the pace throughout the game. Their consistent pressure created turnovers and fast-break opportunities, allowing the offense to flow smoothly.

Abby Sauer earned Player of the Game honors after leading the team with 8 points and providing steady leadership on both ends of the court. She was supported by an evenly distributed scoring effort that highlighted the depth of the roster.

B Team Scoring:
Brooklyn Vaughn (4), Anika Sankar (2), Abby Sauer (8), Breigh Holguin (4), Layla Stevens (2), Kaylan Brown (7), Myra Bhasin (6).

The team’s chemistry and hustle stood out, as every player contributed to the win, particularly on the defensive end, where the group played with intensity all night long.

7th C Team Dominates in 40–4 WIN

The C team delivered an equally impressive performance, securing a commanding 40–4 victory. From the start, CMSN’s defense smothered Grapevine’s offense, holding them scoreless for long stretches and capitalizing on turnovers to build a substantial lead.

Player of the Game, Karissa Hansen, brought energy and poise, contributing 4 points and leading the defensive charge. The scoring was widely shared, showcasing the team’s depth and teamwork.

C Team Scoring:

The C team’s ability to execute on both ends of the floor made for a dominant opening performance and a strong foundation for the season.

All 3 teams demonstrated outstanding effort, communication, and sportsmanship in their season opener. With this momentum, the 7th grade Lady Cougars look forward to continuing their growth and competitive spirit as they play the Colleyville Colts on Monday, December 15th.
