With the season rolling along, the North Cougars traveled to Colleyville on Monday night to take on the Colleyville Middle School Colts. Knowing that a tough test was ahead of them, the Cougars hoped to step up and see how they stacked up in this district matchup.

After a delay while awaiting on the game officials, it was Colleyville who boldly took charge from the opening tip. With efficient ball movement, pressure defense, and solid shooting, the Colts jumped out to a quick and commanding lead. The Cougars tried to dig in and show some grit, but turning the momentum turned out to be a tough task. North found themselves down 42-13 at the half and Colleyville proved to be just as skilled as advertised. Rylan Horn led the Cougars with 7 points while Nathan Campbell and Marcelo Aranza worked the boards with 6 and 7 rebounds respectively. Aranza also added 4 steals to lead the team, but the deficiet was too much to overcome as North fell to the Colts by a final of 69-25.

For the second game, both B squads were eager to play. And all in all, it was a very tight and even contest throughout. The Cougars jumped out to a 19-0 halftime advantage behind 10 points from Benjamin Cook and 13 rebounds for Andrew Espinoza on the night. However, the Colts didn't wilt and kept on climbing back into the game. A late basket gave Colleyville the final boost they needed to complete the comeback as the Cougars couldn't find one last score... falling to the Colts by 1 point, 27-26.

To wrap up the evening, North's C team was determined to avoid the sweep. And just like the B game, this game was also very tight from end to end. North was led by 8 points from Gage Lawrence while Samuel Macaluso added 5 more, but the outcome was in doubt all the way until the buzzer. With North scoring a hoop with under 10 seconds to tie the game, the prospect of overtime filled the gym. But a late foul call gave the Colts a chance to win the game from the charity stripe... and 2 makes later the Colleyville fans were celebrating 3 victories on the night as the scoreboard read 19-17.

It was a tough night for the Cougars , but one to learn from and continue to grow. With the holiday break upon us, they will return to the court in January. Come on out and support these teams if you get the chance!
