This first weekend of February brought the last week of competition for the North 7th Boys basketball team this season as the A team looked to make a little noise in the district tournament. Heading over to the host site at Colleyville Middle School, the Cougars were named the #2 seed and ready for action on Friday evening.
In their first contest, North matched up against the #7 seed Grapevine Middle School for a third time this season. Both of the first matchups had gone the Cougars' way, each with big wins, and this third opportunity was also a charm. North jumped out in front quickly and never looked back as they wrapped up a 65-18 victory to start the tourney.
Players of the game included:
Nathan Campbell: 16 points, 7 rebounds, 5 steals, and 3 blocks
Andrew Espinoza: 14 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 steals
Crosby Grizzle: 11 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 blocks
Ben Cook: 9 points
Marcelo Aranza: 8 rebounds
Earning a return trip to continue playing on Saturday morning, the Cougars were eager to get out of bed and hustle over to face their crosstown rivals- the #3 seeded Broncos from CMS East. This matchup was even more energized due to the regular season game having been wiped out by the recent winter weather. Once again, North was able to jump out ahead very quickly. Despite an inspired comeback from the Broncos late, North sealed the 60-57 win to advance to the championship game AND also earn the Coppell City Champs title for this season.
Players of the game included:
Crosby Grizzle: 25 points, 11 rebounds, and 4 steals
Nathan Campbell: 6 points, 10 rebounds, 3 steals, and 3 assists
Matthew Miller: 16 points
Rylan Horn: 9 points
Viaan Desai: 3 steals and 4 assists
Standing in North's way of winning the title were the undefeated ,#1 seeded Colleyville Colts who had run through the regular season without seeming to break a sweat. No doubt it would be a tall task, but the Cougars were playing their best ball of the season and were ready to give it a shot. Looking to pull the upset, the Cougars stayed true to their form for the weekend and surprisingly jumped out quickly once again to hold a 26-13 lead after the first quarter. But this game was far from finished, and Colleyville continued to claw back a little at a time; cutting the Cougar lead down to 2 points at one point in the second half. However, the boys from North proved up to the challenge, didn't back down, and ended up bursting back ahead late in the 4th quarter to earn a dominant 62-45 victory and the title of "DISTRICT CHAMPIONS!" for the 2025-2026 season.
Players of the game included:
