Cougars brought the brooms after Christmas break against Hillwood. The Cougars played well at all three levels on Monday night but ultimately it was the defense that was the difference. The C team held their opponent to 12 total points on their way to a 36-12 victory. They were lead in scoring by Brooks Kaiser (9) and Jack Behr (8) with contributions from most of the rest of the team.
The B teams defensive stand came early in the 1st quarter where they held Hillwood to 4 points. Tyree Roberson and Max Gruwer were a force on the offensive side, making it to the charity stripe multiple times and cashing in. Tyree went 9 of 10 and Max went 6 of 8 from free throw. They also lead the team in total scoring with 17 and 15, respectively. Tyree also lead the team in steals with 6 take aways. The Cougars won 46-35.
The A team game was a bit of a yoyo game with the lead changing multiple times in the first half. The Cougars started off hot on a 10-0 run but Hillwood answered in the second quarter with a 21-4 run of their own. The Cougars made a defensive change in the 3rd which matched up Gage De Los Santos on and Hillwoods best scorer. De Los Santos was able to shut down the Hillwood 3 pt shot, which made a huge difference in the 3rd quarter with Hillwood only scoring 6 points. Isaiah Fleming did his part with 6 steals on the night. Crew Davis and Jaiden Patel were the offensive spark plug that the Cougars needed. Davis lead the team with 14 points, making back to back 3's in a crucial part of the 3rd quarter. Patel has 10 points with 6 coming late in the 4th to help seal the game. The Cougars won 47-37.
