The 7th grade Cougars basketball teams hosted their second home game of the season on Monday night versus the Keller Middle School Comanches. In the opening game, Keller’s C team came out hot and quickly built a commanding lead through the first half. However, the Cougars did not wilt and kept putting forth their best effort as the game pressed on. Both Pedro Avila and Rithik Pai filled the stat sheet to bolster the team’s rebounds, steals, and points despite falling short, 24-10.

As the Cougars B team took the floor, they had a spark right from the start and jumped out to an early lead over the Comanches. Entering the 4th quarter, Keller made a run to cut that lead down and ended up making a 3 pointer to tie the game with only a minute left. But have no fear Cougar fans, as your Player of the Game, Sam Minteer, splashed in a huge 3 point shot of his own (10 points total) to steal back the momentum and put the Cougars ahead for good. And North walked away with a 28-27 win in a game that ended up as tight as most everyone’s waistbands after the recent holidays!

To cap off the evening, the A team game was a hotly contested match from the tip. Point guard Charlie Sauer led the team with 9 points while Suhoon Cho dominated the boards to collect 10 rebounds. Keller pushed the pace and nudged ahead just enough to hold off the Cougars; even after North found themselves down just a single point midway through the fourth quarter. As the final buzzer sounded though, Keller secured the win by a score of 28-23 to take two out of three games on the night.
