As the holiday weekend rolled around, the North 8th grade Cougars headed to the West Invitational basketball tournament hosted by Coppell West. In all, both the A and B teams participated in 3 games each in this tournament to gain some extra action and experience.

First game of the tournament was your Cougars vs Coppell Middle School West. North sold their all around great defense holding the Wranglers to six points in the first half with North taking a 26 to 11 victory in the first game. Player of the game goes to Cade Slayton with 8 points and grabbing every rebound that came his way. Next, up was Grapevine Middle School and once again North’s defense came to play beating Grapevine 44 to 19. Player of the game goes to Max Gruwer with 8 points and amazing ball handling all night. Next up was Prestonwood Christian Academy for the championship game. North knew that they were in for a close battle as they took a 15-14 lead into halftime. Unfortunately, your cougars came up just a little short with a 34-30 loss for your Cougars. Player of the game goes to Will Ellis with a game high 15 points! Cougars take second place in the tournament!

The Cougars A team seemed to take notes from the B team and started off with great defense by putting the pressure on the Wranglers beating them 52-26 with player of the game going to Colin Griffith with a game high 15 points and amazing defense. Next up for the Cougars was the undefeated Grapevine Middle School. Your Cougars fought hard and never gave up but the offensive firepower for Grapevine prevailed as the Cougars fell, 63-32. Player of the game goes to Eduvie Nesiama with 9 points and his great free throw shooting. Next up was Prestonwood Christian Academy for 2nd place in the tournament. Just like the B teams this game was going to be a nail biter. North took a 17-10 lead into halftime but Prestonwood fought back to make it close. North came away with a 31-29 victory and secured second in the tournament. Player of the game goes to Colin Grittith with 9 points and great job on the boards.

We are so proud of how hard the Cougars played!
