As the season is beginning to wind down, the North 7th Grade basketball teams headed to Carroll Middle School on Monday night to continue this historic rivalry with the Dragons. As the C team jumped into action, they played with heart and a scrappy effort, but just could not keep up as the game closed out in the fourth quarter. Despite a team-leading 9 points from Pedro Avila, the Cougars lost 42-20.

The B team took some notes though in that first game and came out ready to play. After North jumped out to a first half lead, the game became a tug-of-war affair in the second half. Rajiv Anandkumar led the team with 8 points and 4 steals, but the Dragons found a way to pull ahead and take down North 25-22 in a nail-biter.

The close B game simply got the gym warmed up and ready for the highlight of the night with the A teams taking the floor. North raced out to a huge lead in the first quarter with strong defensive pressure headlined by Madden Montague’s 7 steals! But Carroll wasn’t quite ready to give in, and slowly reeled in the Cougars like a fisherman hauling in a trophy fish. And much like the Cougars previous game, the fourth quarter ended with a balanced score on the board… and they headed for overtime again! After falling behind by 5 points, North fought back to give themselves a chance. And when it mattered most, the Player of the Game- Charlie Sauer- stepped up to drop in a final 3 point shot as the buzzer blared to cement the comeback win 41-40!
