On Tuesday evening, the North 7th grade football team hosted the Panthers of Fossil Hill Middle School. Both teams brought the effort and had some highlights to celebrate.
In the first game, North's B team displayed some strong defensive skills early in the game. Ethan Pate was a human wrecking ball from his linebacker position as he led the team in tackles; many taking down the Panthers for a loss on the play. Ridham Babel jumped a pass for an interception and Barrett Mupo stripped a fumble to give the Cougars a few extra possessions as well. However, North's offense wasn't able to capitalize from the defensive momentum and could not find the end zone. Fossil Hill was able to get rolling on a few plays to score and ended up with the 19-0 victory.
The Cougar's A team came out fired up and ready to play. From the start, North was dominant on both sides of the ball. An early touchdown pass from Jack Wilmington to Miguel Lopez got the Cougars on top. And then Jacob Anene added some flash with an 81 yard TD run to really pad the lead... and then followed that up with a pick 6 on defense for another score as well. The Panthers were able to add a few scores late, but in the end the Cougars took a knee in the Victory formation to run out the clock and seal the 18-12 WIN!
