How Sweep it Is!

As the calendar turns to November, it's time to roll back the clocks, throw on a sweatshirt, and head to the gym... because BASKETBALL SEASON IS BACK! The 7th grade boys from North hosted the visitors from Tidwell Middle School on Monday night to tip off the season. And it didn't take long to dive into the excitement.

The C team started off the night with the first game and ran away with the game right from the start. The Titans seemed as though they hadn't gotten off the bus, and the Cougars jumped out to a 20 point lead by halftime. Using a very balanced attack, North's squad saw every player score as well as fill up the stats sheet with rebounds and steals; being led by Ridham Babel with 8 points on the night. Throughout the second half, the Cougars kept up the pace and secured a season-opening victory by the total of 40-11 over the Titans.

Liking what they saw, North's B team was not to be outdone. They chose to ride the momentum from the first game and also jumped out in front against Tidwell. Despite a bit of a slow first half, the Cougars poured it on in the second half being led in scoring by Brayden Vaughn (14 points), Brady Bowden (11 points), and Bennett Head (10 points). However, Mateo De La Hoya exuded energy on the court leading the team with 8 rebounds while Isaac VanKirk kicked in 6 boards and 6 points along with several blocks to fuel the effort. In the end, North outpaced the Titans to another W, 48-21.

And in the finale, A team needed to step up as they looked for the sweep over Tidwell. In a game that was much closer than the previous two, both teams battled back in forth with the Cougars managing to stay in front by a slim margin most of the way. Much like the C game, every player dropped the ball through the hoop along the way... but in the 4th quarter, Jacob Anene took control of the game scoring 16 points (22 on the night) to help North pull away and complete the sweep with a 54-35 win over Tidwell.

It was a fantastic effort and an exciting scene to get the season underway. The Cougars are looking forward to everything headed their way this winter- so come on out and support the cause!
