8th vs Heritage:

There was a lot to be proud of in our first basketball game of the season vs the Broncos. The C team had a slow first quarter, but made great progress with 10 points in the 2nd quarter to tie up the game. They fought hard but fell short by 2 points 22-24 . This team has a lot of potential! Maddy Wilson and Harper Thompson both had 2 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists. Our Player of the game scored 11 points, was a strong defender, and had 4 steals and 2 assists. Great job Shreya Shah!

Our B team came out strong and didn’t slow down the entire game. They won their first game of the season 15-10. Yena Chae was a great play maker. She was driving with her left hand, made great cuts, and created space on the court. She had 2 points, 4 steals. Rachel Howe had 3 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 steals. Her reliable and consistent play helped us secure the win. The Player of the game was an offensive and defensive threat to the Broncos, with 8 points, 6 steals, and 1 rebound. She was a huge presence on the court and led the team to a victory! Way to go… Carolina Vasquez!! This team is showing great improvements early in the season. Keep working hard girls!

Last night was a tough loss against the Broncos. The Cougars started out on fire and gave Heritage a run for their money. We fell short by 1 point, but it was great to see them fight for every point 39-40. Addison Hamm was a positive presence on the court. She had 5 points, 2 rebounds, 5 steals and 3 assists. Swara Adusumilli played in her first game after being injured and didn’t miss a beat. She made 3 clutch shots in the 4th quarter and narrowed the margin between the Broncos. Player of the game goes to Morgan Proctor. Her mentally focus and composure throughout the game did not go unnoticed. Morgan had 18 points, 2 rebounds,7 steals, and 1 assist.

Seventh Grade vs Heritage and the Hanging Goal Protector:
Our 7th grade A team started us off with a two point lead in the first quarter, 7-5. The quarter was tagged with a plethora of fouls from both teams making it a long 8 minute first quarter. The second quarter resulted in the Broncos taking the lead with a 15-2 point spread. Taylor Mechsner started warming up and ended up scoring 9 points in the second half and Aneesha Anand scored 7. The score jumped just slightly out of North’s reach with a final score 22-33. Each quarter’s score: 5-7, 20-9, 28-15, 33-22, with a foul count of 10 for the Broncos and 19 for the Cougars. While we are aggressive, which is crucial to our game, we are learning how to properly defend without racking up unnecessary fouls.

The B team took home a 6 point victory, winning 13 to 7. Laurel Storey was the high scorer with 4 points. We ran our offense and pressed, gaining a lot of turnovers. The fourth quarter resulted in North out scoring the Broncos by 10 points.

The C team outshined their opponent with an overall win 28-8. The heavy roster is divided into yellow, green and purple warriors. Renata Lara Velasquez and Madison Tooke both lead the team with 8 points each. The Mardi Gra Cougars had 7 of the 15 players contribute to the scoreboard while all of them influenced the game.
