7th Boys Cougars vs. Colts!

Entering the final week of the season, the North 7th grade boys basketball team hosted the Colleyville Middle School Colts on Monday night in a showdown that would determine final seeds for the upcoming district tournament. Both teams came into the contest tied in the standings, so who would come out on top?

In the first game of the night, the Cougars A squad looked to apply pressure from the jump and take control. However, the Colts also were looking for success and were able to slash and drive to the hoop for some easy buckets to build a lead. And while Colleyville found a way to make some easy shots, unfortunately North was struggling to finish on some of their early attempts as they fell further behind. Despite 15 points and 4 steals from Kash Hickman, the Cougars just couldn't catch up to the Colts. And with the 62-35 victory, Colleyville secured the 3 seed for the tourney with North falling to the 4 seed as both teams hope to get hot this weekend.

As the B game began, North's team stepped up their intensity and pushed the action throughout the first half. Both teams seemed evenly matched, and were working to find opportunities against their opponents. Ryan Mongomery lead the team with 6 points; followed by Tomas Morales and Aiden Wright who both added 5 points as well. Johnathan Anderson dominated the rebound battle once again collecting 11 on the night. The Colts were undeterred though and kept up the intensity, eventually pulling away to hand the Cougars a 36-25 loss to end their season.

Looking to find a win for North, the C roster took the court for the final game of the night. Applying pressure from the start, the Cougars kept the game tight and held a slight lead throughout most of the action. The Cougars were led by a strong overall game from Owen Cole who tallied 8 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals, and 3 assists. However, the Colts didn't quit and eventually took the lead late in the game. North was faced with a choice- find a way or walk away? A late surge from the Cougars tied the game and a final defensive stand sent the game to overtime for the first time this season. Overtime did not disappoint as North came out quickly, built a lead, and held on to end their season with a 22-19 victory. The win bolstered their overall winning record of 5-1 on the year!

All 3 of North's 7th grade teams appreciate the support and encouragement they have received from their fans this season. And hopefully the A team can add some additional excitement with a strong run in the district tournament this weekend. Join the fun at Cross Timbers beginning on Friday evening!
