Grapevine Game

7th:

Your North Cougars hit the road to face the Grapevine Ponies, and our A teams were on fire! The girls came ready to dominate and took down Grapevine in two quick sets: 25-13 and 25-11! It was a total team effort, but some standouts shined bright. Brielle Ownby was an absolute force at the libero spot, locking down the passing game. Not to be outdone, Peyton Dougher brought the heat as a defensive specialist. And let’s give it up for our Players of the Game: setters Annabelle Ross and Brylee Felix! These two were unstoppable, racking up a combined 31 of the team’s 50 total serving points! Way to bring it, Cougars!

Next up were the B teams, and they were on a mission for their first win of the season! North came out blazing, and Ava Hundley set the tone early with a crushing hit within the first 3 points, firing up the entire squad! Bryce Wilson and Kate McGrath were an unstoppable 1-2 punch, delivering stellar plays throughout. Kendall Dunkelberger brought the energy with clutch passes and game-changing aces, helping secure a 25-19 win in the first set. After that, there was no stopping them! North closed it out with another 25-19 victory. Rebecca VanSickle, Scarlett Smith, and Mila Obidzinski dominated from the service line, while Sophia Petereit had some of the most jaw-dropping saves you’ll ever see! Nadia Stanback and Olivia Moore controlled the tempo with their brilliant front-row play, and Maddie Berumen was a powerhouse, delivering key hits and showing incredible court vision. Players of the Game? The entire B team!** Their communication and teamwork were nothing short of spectacular! What a performance!

Last up were the C teams, and they were ready to break out the brooms for their first sweep of the season! The first set was an absolute nail-biter, with both teams trading points, but North dug deep and pulled off a clutch 25-20 win! By the second set, North wasn’t playing around—they took control and dominated Grapevine with a swift 25-12 victory! Player of the Game? Sterling Cook! She was absolutely cooking the competition! Her passing was on point, but those serves? Unstoppable!
Don’t miss the action next week as we host Colleyville! Let’s keep this momentum rolling, Cougars!

8th:

Wow! B team took the court first against the Ponies and dominated Grapevine in 2 two sets. This match was fun, action packed and every teammate found a way to contribute to the win. Even with missing two of our key starters, these girls found a way to work together and secure an impressive win. Notable highlights include: Brooklin Windfield, Charlotte Baade, and Jalina Suarez excelling as 6 rotation players who played outside of their comfort zone and stepped up to the challenge in new positions! Shoutout to Laurel Storey, Libero, for her consistent play in offense and defense on the back row. Standout servers were Sienna Petereit with 9 points and Brooklin Windfield with 17 combined match points! Madi Shelby showed some great blocking and hitting. Player of the game is awarded to Middle Blocker, Kate Kingsford, who dominated the front row with double digit kills and multiple blocks and Brooklin Windfield, who played the roll of setter for the first time ever and did a fantastic job!
Game Scores: 25-16, 25-13.

A team:
Coming into the match, North A team had a 1-1 district record and was facing an undefeated 2-0 opponent. The current standings did not deter the A team, as they came out swinging and secured a 25-20 set 1 win. The second set, the Ponies and Cougars traded point for point but North came up short with a 18-25 final score, forcing the third set. The Cougars started the 3rd set strong with a 5-0 lead before the Ponies regrouped in a timeout. It was a heated end to the match with the Cougars fighting until the end and winning the match point off of Izzy Lingenbrink’s serve and a final set score of 17-16. Player of the game is awarded to 2 players: Allison Lewis, team libero, for her calm in a very weathered storm and consistency on the back row and Middle Blocker, Olly Anene, who showed her true athleticism by leading the team in kills and strategic placement of the ball to score in clutch moments!
Game Scores: 25-20, 18-25, 17-16

C team took the court last with Harper Fiveash leading the team with 17 combined service points!!!! She has proven to be a very reliable 6 rotation player in offense and defense. While the Cougars fell short on the scoreboard, they did a great job of not giving up and fighting until the end. The team showed immense improvement on transitions, serving percentage and three touch plays. Reese Shortino and London Lock both worked the net well with blocks and effective hitting. Kaylee Carpenter, team captain, managed the floor well with setting and assisting teammates in a variety of plays. Player of the game is given to Madison Tooke, team Libero, for her consistency in serve receive and defense, as well as Reese Shortino, Middle Blocker, who has done an excellent job in her net play, proving to be a force against our opponents. Next week, the C team will focus on variations in a new line-up and working hard to prepare for the Colleyville Colts.
