North Has a Program Sweep Over West

7th:
Tonight, your North Cougars faced off against their cross-town rivals, the Coppell West Wranglers! This was the final game for the B and C teams and the last match for the A team before heading into the district tournament.
The Cougars came out strong, determined to not only win but to dominate in two straight sets! Emmy Anene set the tone early with a streak of 5 consecutive serves that earned points, igniting the team’s momentum. Holiday Lora followed up with powerful serves and aggressive front-row attacks, leading North to a decisive 25-12 win in the first set. In the second set, the Cougars continued their commanding performance, securing a swift 25-15 victory. The Players of the Game were Halle Marvin, who shined with excellent serves, front-row attacks, and smooth transitions, and Annabelle Ross, who led with 19 points off serves and displayed outstanding on-court leadership!

Next up were the B teams, and your North Cougars were eager to secure a victory! They came out strong, quickly gaining the upper hand over West with a commanding 25-15 win in the first set. Kendall Dunkelberger was outstanding as libero, while Sophia Petereit dominated on the court with powerful play and exceptional leadership. However, West wasn’t ready to go down without a fight. They bounced back in the second set, defeating North 25-17 and forcing a third set. But North wasn’t about to let the win slip away. They regrouped and stormed through the decisive set with a 15-6 victory! The Players of the Game were Maddie Berumen, who delivered some of her best hits of the season and scored 12 points off serves, including the final 7 that sealed the win in the third set. Mila Obidzinski also shined, racking up a team-high 17 points off serves and covering the court with relentless energy to help secure the victory for her team!
Last up were the C teams, and North was ready to complete the sweep—and that’s exactly what they did, taking down West in two straight sets! This was truly an all-around team performance, showcasing how well the Cougars have come together this season. Their chemistry was undeniable, and it really showed on the court tonight. The Players of the Game were Anna Dinsmore, Zara Abbas, and Natalie Campos. All three girls dominated in the serving game, excelled in serve receive, and played absolutely lights out!
Though the season has come to an end, it’s clear the future is bright for North volleyball!
8th Grade

8th GRADE:
B TEAM
For the last game of the season the Cougars took on cross town rivals Coppell West. B team’s success is greatly attributed to their stellar defense. Laurel Storey, Jalina Suarez and Sienna Petereit all contributed with amazing digs, serves, sets and overall strength in skill allowed us to win many of the long rallies. Kate Kingsford found her stride with 5 kills and numerous blocks. Brinley Robinson, 6 rotation player, was back to full strength contributing numerous aces and kills. Player of the game goes to the entire team as every player knew their role, executed it well and picked up those who were struggling. It was a fun night beating the Wranglers. These ladies ended the night 3rd in district with a 4-2 record.

A TEAM
A team came out swinging, securing the win in 2 sets:25-20, 25-8. Shoutout to Gaby Keating, Middle Blocker, who stepped in on the back row contributing 6 points from the endline and playing effective defense. Nethra Naresh showed out on the right side with 3 kills in the first set. Izzy Lingenbrink and Allison Lewis continue to dominate in serve receive and defense, allowing setters, Emma Rose and Kaitlyn Thiele, a multitude of hitting options. Players of the Game are lefty Taylor Mechsner, co-captain, 6 rotation player and Outside Hitter, who hit lights out and made some clutch plays against the Wranglers, and Olly Anene, Middle Blocker, who jumped out of the gym with multiple blocks, strategic kills and aggressive net play. The Cougars will now advance to the District tournament as the 3rd place seed and will take on Coppell East in the first round next Thursday at 7:00 on North’s home court.
25-20, 25-8

C TEAM
C team kept the winning streak going as they won in 3 sets and solidified the program sweep! Player of the game is London Lock with her best game of the season. London served 16 points total for the night and had multiple blocks, tips and aggressive kills. she was an integral part of the overall win for the Cougars. While it was a slow start, the Cougars picked up the pace in the second set, which pushed the match to a 3rd set. Noah Cruz, Eliana Hayashi, Reese Shortino and London Lock all contributed with kills and strong net play. Serving was a full group effort with many of the girls providing aces when needed. While the games were close, the Cougars pulled out the win in 3 sets, ending the season in 4th place with a 3-3 record.
