On Monday evening, the 7th grade North Cougars boys basketball teams looked to start the new year by building momentum from their previous series sweep. And to do so, they played host to their district opponents- the Colleyville MS Colts!

As usual, the A team squads for both teams took the court for the first game. North was hoping for a hot start to warm up this winter evening, and it didn't take long to get cooking! The Cougars didn't let the Colts get comfortable and quickly took control as they raced out to a solid lead and didn't look back. It was a total team effort with every player helping to stuff the stat sheet, but North was led by Mason Hotle (12 points, 3 rebounds, 4 steals, and 5 assists), Garrison Gamet (a team high 13 points and 6 steals), and Eli Smith (adding 12 points and 3 assists). As the buzzer sounded for this first game, it showed North taking the convincing WIN by the score of 55-29!

No pressure, but the Cougars B team now had to try and keep up the momentum and they tipped off the second game of the evening. But not to worry, the hosts again were up to the challenge and didn't let Colleyville find their footing. A quartet of players led North in scoring with Marco Ramos tallying 8 points along with 3 assists; followed by Seth Campbell, Christian Bennet, and Peyton Williams all adding 7 points apiece as well. The Cougars stayed in control throughout as they worked their way to a 31-19 victory!

As both C teams took the court for the final game, North once again had the chance to brush up on their janitorial skills and SWEEP the Colts out of the building for a second series in a row. It proved to not be an easy challenge though as Colleyville's C team had only one loss on the season thus far. North was able to jump in front, but struggled to finish at the rim often as they tried to expand their lead. And the Colts played pesky defense and continued to hand around within just a few points throughout the game. Jackson Dunagan, Taichi Oyama, and Elliot Lucas shared the honors to lead the team with 4 each points on the night. And as a team, the Cougars dropped in 8 of 14 free throws to help bolster the effort. But in the end, all Cougar fans had to wait and hold their breath as the Colts threw up a buzzer-beating attempt to win the game... that ended up falling short to give North a hard fought 21-19 win and a second consecutive sweep on the night.

With only a few weeks left in this season, North's 7th graders are riding winning streaks and looking to finish strong. Come on out to support the Cougars and cheer them on to victory!
