1/28/2025 8TH VS Coppell Middle School West
8th Grade A Team Recap
Last night, the 8th grade A team wrapped up their home season with a dominant 49-19 win over Coppell West. The team's focus going into the game was to execute their offense and improve on rebounding, and they delivered on both fronts. With the victory, the Cougars are fired up and ready for the upcoming District Tournament.
Two players stood out and earned Player of the Game honors: Madie Shelby and Olly Anene. Madie continues to be a consistent leader, putting in the work every day at practice. Her efforts were evident on the court, finishing with 10 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 steals. Olly was equally impressive with 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 steals, using her speed and aggressive play to overwhelm the opposition.
Nearly every player got in the scoring column, and each player grabbed at least one rebound! Taylor Mechsner had a standout performance, leading the team with 13 rebounds, 5 steals, and a clutch 3-pointer in the fourth quarter.
Good luck to the Cougars as they head into the District Tournament this weekend at Cross Timbers Middle School. Their first game is against East at 5 p.m. Let’s come out and show our support!

B Team: A Strong Finish to the Season!
The 8th-grade B team played an outstanding game, dominating the Wranglers with a 21-9 victory! From the start, the Cougars’ defensive press was relentless, holding West to just 2 points in the first quarter. Abby Behr set the tone early with a big 3-pointer, and the momentum continued to build from there.
In the second half, the ever-dynamic Tarusi Aphale stepped up on defense, recording 7 steals and continuing to be a key player all season. Laurel Storey showcased her leadership, making smart plays from the forward position and contributing 2 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 steals.
The game’s standout performers and our Players of the Game, included Gaby Keating, who finished with 4 points, 7 rebounds, and a fierce presence that set the tone for the team. Ariana Datta also contributed 4 points, 2 rebounds and 5 steals. She made critical plays throughout the game and her speed and versatility is an asset to our team.
This was a fantastic way to wrap up the season, with everyone playing their part in a total team effort. Congratulations to the entire team on a great season!

C Team Clinches the Sweep for the Cougars!
The 8th-grade C team finished their final game of the season with a dominant 23-5 victory over the Coppell West Wranglers, capping off a fantastic year. Despite West sticking to a zone defense for much of the game, the Cougars kept finding ways to put points on the board. By halftime, the Cougars led 12-3, setting the tone for the rest of the game.
This team showed incredible growth throughout the season, finishing with an impressive 5-1 record. A few standout performances included Awa Ouedraogo, who contributed 6 points, 3 rebounds, and 5 steals. Pam Brown brought relentless energy, finishing with 2 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 steals, always hustling to make an impact.
The Players of the Game were Parmis Farzad and Brooklin Windfield! Parmis was a joy to watch, showing a newfound confidence that was clear in her performance. She finished with 6 points, 1 rebound, and 1 steal, and it was exciting to see her hard work pay off. Brooklin was everywhere on the floor, making life difficult for the Wranglers with her stellar defense. She forced a turnovers without committing a single foul, and her consistent effort in practice made her a coach’s dream. It was great to see her shine in this final game.
We hope all the players continue to love the game of basketball and take their skills to the next level. We are incredibly proud of the entire team and their hard work this season!

1/28/2025 7TH VS Coppell Middle School West
A Team score: 50-4
The evening kicked off with a strong tip-off by Annabelle Ross, setting the tone for a dominant performance by the Cougars. Their full-court press quickly shut down the Wranglers, limiting them to just one bucket in the first quarter. Faced with a rare 2-3 zone, North was forced to work the baseline and shoot from the perimeter. By halftime, the Cougars held a commanding 34-2 lead.
Standout performances included Annabelle Ross, who finished as the team’s high scorer with 18 points—12 of which came in the second quarter alone. Brylee Felix (Player of the Game) followed with 14 points, including a long-range 3-pointer, and 10 of those points came in the first quarter. Kate McGrath continued her playmaking prowess, while Holiday Lora (Player of the Game) contributed with 6 points, numerous rebounds, and aggressive defense.
The Cougars walked away with an impressive 50-4 win and will look to carry that momentum into their next challenge. They’ll face Grapevine in the first round of the District Tournament on Friday, January 31st, at 7:00 p.m.

B Team score: 30-4
The North B team started the night strong, quickly taking the lead. The West Wranglers worked hard to keep the margin close, but the first quarter ended with North up 8-2. Valentina Prado, Kaylee Avila, Angelica Bennet, and Natalie Campos each contributed two points to the early lead.
Bennet and Brooke Webb went on a scoring spree in the second quarter, each adding six points to extend North’s lead to 26. The team also implemented a new press defense just before the game, adapting quickly and executing it effectively. Sophia Petereit stood out as a leader, making key steals and contributing to the defensive effort. She also added a basket in the second half.
After halftime, the Cougars showed sportsmanship by shifting to a half-court man defense. Hallie Marvin, North’s post player, battled on the boards, securing rebounds and adding a putback basket. The Cougars’ defensive pressure forced several turnovers from the Wranglers, maintaining their control of the game.
Players of the game were Sophia Petereit (4 points) and Hallie Marvin (2 points). This group of athletes is best remembered for their relentless hustle and quick transitions on the fast break.

C Team score: 20-4
The C team game started a little early, and so did the scoring. The North Cougars came out strong, putting up 16 points in the first quarter. Player of the game, Maddie Berumen, contributed two baskets and assisted Sterling Cook for another score. Fatima Coria, Melany Castillo, and Sarah Morchower each added two points to cap off an impressive opening run.
In the second quarter, the Wranglers managed to put up four points, making the halftime score 16-4. The third quarter was a high-energy battle with plenty of hustle but no scoring from either side. Anna Dinsmore, Peyton Dougher, Olivia Moore, and Charlotte Axelson applied relentless defensive pressure, creating chaos for the Wranglers.
Player of the game, Karis Wilkins, made key rebounds, while Victoria Moto used her speed to disrupt West’s offense, limiting them to just one basket in the second half. The Cougars also managed one final score, with Sterling Cook sinking a shot underneath to seal the 20-6 victory.
This C team has worked diligently all season, showing tremendous improvement over the past three months. Now, they look forward to supporting the A team in their big game against Grapevine on Friday night at 7:00.
