11/21/24 7TH VS CROSS TIMBERS:
7A TEAM:
The A Team had a slow start and ended the first quarter 2-10. After pulling the full court zone press and implementing a full court man press, the Cougars came back and out-scored the Wolves 18-5 in the second quarter and going into halftime with a 20-15 lead. The Wolves had 1 dominant player who scored 12 of their 15 points so in order to shut her down, North learned a Box-and-1 defense in the 2 minute halftime. Starting the second half with this new defense, the Cougars were able to shut down the Wolves’ star player, cutting her scoring to only 3 total points in the second half. Unfortunately, this allowed another Cross TImbers player to step up and fill the gap in scoring. In the second half, the Wolves scored a total of 27 points, with the Cougars scoring 20 and allowing the Wolves to win by 2 points with a final score of 42-44. Highlights of the game include an even distribution of points scored by North players, aggressive defense through all 4 quarters, efficiently running a new 5 out read and react offense and working as a unified team on offense and defense. Player of the Game is awarded to Brooke Felix (guard) who never lost her stamina, played aggressive defense throughout the game and hit two 3-pointers, as well as Holiday Lora (post), who stepped up offensively as the game high scorer (14 points) and aggressive rebounding and defense. While the game ended with a loss, the team unity and growth shown is immeasurable.
Final Score 42-44
Players of the game:
Brylee Felix (6 points) , Holiday Lora (14 points)
7B TEAM:
The B team rocked out during the game against the Cross Timber Wolves. While they scored 31 points; the impressive part was that the other team was scoreless. The B team hustled and prevented alot of scoring opportunities for CTMS. The score was 24-0 at the end of the first half. The Cougars were challenged with running the diamond and one press, which gave ease to our middle defender, Brooke Webb, who led the team in scoring with 16 points. Natalie Campos made her game day debut with her quickness and scrappy play. They were both named players of the game. This most determined group declared and accepted the challenge when Coach Martens offered donuts if the Cougars could keep the opposing team at zero points on the board. The loudest leaders in this charge were Jane Lambert, Sophia Petereit and Valentina Sanchez Prado who cheered when we scored and winced each time the Wolves got the ball. The final score was 31-0 and the girls did get their prized donuts.
Final Score 31-0
Players of the game:
Brooke Webb (16 points) , Natalie Campos

The last game of the night was the C team showdown. Rather a C team show-up, eight of the eleven members scored for the Cougars. In the first quarter, the Cougar side was hot as the score quickly escalated to 12-2. Victoria Mota and Karis Wilkins each scored 4 points that quarter leaving 2 points from Melany Castillo and Fatima Coria. The game went to a respectful half court defense for the Cougars and the point spread reflected this change by only scoring 7 points in the second half. Showing excellent perimeter “deny” defense was Karis Wilkins and Olivia Moore leading to a pass to Sara Morchower for a fastbreak basket. Sterling Cook hit the boards with multiple rebounds and Maddie Berumen owned the sideline entry. Peyton Dougher had the fans on the edge of their seats with free throws and high arch points to add to the final score of 25-6.
