On Monday evening, in the final games before the holiday break, North's 7th grade boys traveled to Grapevine Middle School to take on the Ponies. Looking to gain some momentum before the time off, the Cougars were ready for action!

To start off the night, North's A team didn't waste any time and quickly got off to a hot start. Applying pressure all over the court, they were able to jump out ahead of Grapevine and control the game throughout the first half. Despite a push from the Ponies in the second half, the Cougars stayed in front; led by Mason Hotle with 26 points and 7 rebounds along with Garrison Gamet who did all of the dirty work collecting 5 rebounds, 7 steals, and dishing out 4 assists. As the buzzer sounded, North collected their first district win with a 45-39 victory!

Both B teams were looking to find an edge in the second game with North looking to keep up the pressure and Grapevine looking for a little redemption. Despite having been ice cold to start their previous two games, it was the Cougars who came out hot and lassoed the Ponies from the tip. With smothering pressure and tight defense, North turned turnovers into points like never-before. Three Cougar players really stepped up: Marco Ramos (16 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 steals), Emiliano Salas (9 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists), and Christian Bennet (10 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 assists). And this well rounded effort from the Cougars proved too much for Grapevine on the night as North ran away with a 52-7 win... also their first of the season!

As the final game was ready to play, North's C squad was excited for the opportunity to clean up for the night and sweep the Ponies right out of their own gym. And why change what isn't broken? So once again, North stepped up the pressure and smothered Grapevine every step of the way. The Cougars displayed a balanced effort as a team, but were led by Taichi Oyama with 6 points and Bryan Aguilera with 9 rebounds, 5 steals, and 2 assists. As the final seconds ticked off the clock, North's defense was pitching a shutout on the scoreboard; but a final toss toward the hoop netted the Ponies their first points as the Cougars dominated to come out on top by the score of 30-2... finishing off the sweep!

Needless to say, spirts were high for the Cougars. Now the challenge will be to hold on to this energy until the new year when they step on the court next in 2025!
